I've had this bookshelf for years. I think I got it around the time Solomon was born. It's been loved and filled with our favorite books but the shelf needed a makeover. It was unfinished and water stained on the top. It's been on my list of things to do for a long time!
While I was at it, I might as well do a book purge too. I get very attached to books. As a result, we have tons and tons of books that fill bookshelves all over our home. I even get attached to really silly, not so great books. I remember getting a cheesy set of small animal books at the used book store over 10 years ago and I still have them. I finally got the nerve to send them back to the used book store. Well, actually they're in a bag in my car. Let's just say, they're almost out-a here.
My newest addition to the bookshelf are a set of Childcraft books from 1980. Very cool. I got them for free at the homeschool co-op. They have those great illustrations that look like their from the 1960's. A great homeschool resource.
I love the way the bookshelf turned out. I had an old calendar that I used for the bird decoupage.
Now, the bookshelf is re-stocked with our absolute favorites. We have been fortunate enough to receive many of Jonathan's books from when he was a kid. These books are the kids' most loved I think. You can tell, just by the way these old books are written that life was so much simpler then. I think that's why I love them so much.
(If you would like to win a copy of Rae Grant's new book, stop by my post here and leave a comment. I will close comments on July 2nd in the morning and announce a winner shortly thereafter)

Oh my gosh Pennie, you have to look at them. They are so cool! I loved getting that checked off my list! Seriously, for years I have been thinking of doing it. It took no time at all! Now, why didn't I do it sooner? :) Love, Kyndale

Great makeover! I also get very attached to books, and never get red of them. Even photocopies that date back to my college years still clutter our bookshelves! It really is time I also visited the used book store!

I do really love having lots of books (and old papers and cards, etc..) But for me storage is a problem. I can't really put them in my garage because it gets so hot in there! And...I don't need so much stuff anyway :)

Oh how I am with you in the love of books. The bookshelf turned out beautifully, and what a special way to display these treasures.
Thank you for your email yesterday. You have no idea how much it meant

I did some purging in my bookshelves lately. Got rid of some paperbacks and books i didn't enjoy reading. I should do the same with my children's book, we have some silly books that have sneaked in.
I love how your shelf looks new
