On weekend mornings you can find the whole Pease bunch huddled in the big bed. I think that's the way it is for everyone isn't it? We cuddle and we talk about what we want to do that day. This morning I had the pleasure of sleeping in. That was sure nice.
As I was laying there, I could hear the kids out with Jonathan talking and playing. Then I heard Eli coming down the hall screaming "I'm going to show mom!"
He wanted to show me how he wrote his name. With an extra "H" for horse, "T" for toucan, 3 "S's" for Solomon and a "D" for dolphin. The letters were all "holding hands". This has been a blessing, having Eli so interested in letters. Except for one thing. Solomon has been slow to learn his letters and read. I've been worried but sure that he would learn them when he was absolutely ready. You may remember when I brought Solomon home to learn a few years ago.
Anyway, I mentioned that "D" is also the first letter in the word dragon. Well Eli thought that was the cat's pajamas. I can't tell you how much he loves his pet dragon. Then Solomon slipped away and came back with his clipboard. He had written the word "dragon" on the paper! For the first time he actually sounded out a word and wrote it down. I tried not to be too excited but as I'm writing this, I feel the emotions welling up inside me. It's been a long haul. Lots of worrying, lots of movement therapy and drives to California for his cranial sacral therapy.
What I have been seeing lately is Solomon being proud to show Eli the things he knows. Solomon is a very helpful, patient and sweet big brother. I guess it's all going to work out the way it was supposed to work out.
I can't wait to see how this all unfolds in the next couple of weeks. So fitting that the new year is here with all its possibilites!
Happy New Year to you!! xoxo
That is wonderful. I know just the emotions you are talking about. You made me smile, Kyndale!
Hugs and happy new year to your sweet family!
Warmly, Nicola

Cool! Some folks in the family are late adopters. We wait until we're absolutely sure we know what we're doing, then feel confident enough to do it...I guess that's one explanation. Teaching brothers is an interesting motivation too (though most of Jon's smarts are his own and occasionally I annoyed the heck out of him showing him the right way; he'd let me know).

the best way to learn is to teach..maybe helping his younger bro is a win win! at any rate, very exciting!

what a fantastic thing that he came to it by his own interest.
happy 2011!

Thanks Nicola, It's feels so good to see some progress! It's been hard the last few years for him. I know he wants to read. It was a great breakthrough moment! Happy New Year to you friend! xo

Yes, being able to show Eli some things has definitely been a huge motivator! Yes, Jonathan likes to be right! I think we all do, don't we?? :)

Oh wow lady I am feeling the emotions you must be feeling. What incredible joy and pride to see your guy write something that you know must have been a challenge for him, physically, emotionally, or whatever. Now...I am interested in why you are doing CST? We did some ages ago for neck trauma related to birth or womb issues, but now I am wondering if it would help with emotional issues?
